 Tribute to Achievement
Each year, at its Tribute to Achievement, Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana honors an individual and a corporation or foundation with significant professional accomplishments and contributions to the community. While serving as a major fundraiser supporting Girl Scout programs, services and operations, the dinner also serves to highlight outstanding role models that Girl Scout members can emulate.

The Luminary Award
The Luminary Award is presented to an individual who has excelled in his or her field and serves as an exemplary role model for Girl Scouts. This year’s recipient is Ellen Costello, Chief Executive Officer of
Harris Bankcorp, Inc. Ellen’s successful career path exemplifies the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character.
Harris Bankcorp, Inc., a large regional retail, business and wealth bank serving more than one million personal and business customers in and around the Chicago area through its network of more than 230 branches is part of Toronto-based BMO Financial Group, one of North America's leading financial services providers. Costello is responsible for carrying out the strategy of the U.S. Personal and Commercial business, namely to profitably grow the business from within and through acquisition.
Prior to joining Harris, Costello was with BMO Financial Group’s Investment Banking Group as Vice Chair and head of Securitization, Credit Investment Management and Merchant Banking groups. In addition, she led the New York office, working in collaboration with the Investment Banking Group’s executive team on strategy and governance for its U.S. based businesses.
After joining BMO Financial Group in 1983, Costello held progressively senior positions in Corporate Banking and Treasury; including leadership positions in Derivatives and as Regional Treasurer, in Asia. In 1995, she was responsible for strategy development as Senior Vice President and Deputy Treasurer; and in 1997, was appointed Executive Vice President, Global Treasury Group, responsible for the Foreign Exchange, Financial Products, Money Markets, Loan Syndication/Trading and Managed Futures businesses. In 2000, she was named head of Securitization and Credit Investment Management; in 2003, head of BMO Capital Markets, New York; and in 2006, assumed responsibility for Merchant Banking.
Costello has a BBA from St. Francis Xavier University and an MBA from Dalhousie University. She is on the boards of directors for United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, the Chicago Public Education Fund, After School Matters, Executives’ Club of Chicago, Chicago Community Trust and the Board of Governors of St. Francis Xavier University. She is a member of The Chicago Network, the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago, The Chicago Club, Economic Club of Chicago and the Financial Services Roundtable.
Corporate Appreciation Award
Baxter International Inc. was chosen for the 2008 Corporate Appreciation Award in recognition of the company’s commitment to effecting positive change in the communities where its employees live and work. Baxter’s partnership with the Girl Scouts of Chicago is a strong reflection of the importance the company places on partnering with organizations that foster dynamic community engagement in the Chicago area. The goals, mission and values of the Girl Scouts of Chicago are especially well aligned with Baxter’s commitment to education with an emphasis on math and science and focus on making a positive impact on the health and well being of its local and global communities. Baxter is pleased to accept this award in honor of the many Baxter employees who have served the Girl Scouts of Chicago in various capacities over the past several decades.

In 2006, total giving by Baxter and the Foundation exceeded $35 million.
