Program Boxes
The following program boxes and resource kits are available for checkout. Contact the Events Registrar (312-416-2500 ext 226 or chicagoinfo@girlscoutsgcnwi.org for program box availability. Boxes may be reserved in advance. Boxes will be checked for completeness at time of sign-out. A $20 deposit is required and will be returned to your troop when the box is signed back in. If any parts are missing or damaged, the entire amount will be retained until replacement or repairs are complete and any remaining funds will be returned. When returning items plan at least 10 minutes in your schedule because we will check for completeness and damage before the item is considered returned. Some program boxes require a little preparation in advance of the meeting. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the contents and activities before your troop meeting. Kits include most materials necessary to complete the program. Kits currently available for troop/group use:
- Acting Out:
Check out this fun box filled with a collection of dress-up clothes and you have the makings of a great time! Use to meet theater, storytelling requirements or just to have fun. (D)
- CentsAbility:
Projects and activities included in this kit offer opportunities for you to help girls learn money management skills. (B, J)
- Dental Health:
The Smile Smarts! oral health curriculum created by the American Dental Association is available to teach girls how to maintain good oral hygiene. (D, B, J)
- Girl Power I:
This Junior Girl Scout level program box contains the resources needed to facilitate a self-esteem workshop with girls called “Inside and Out.” (J)
- Girl Power II:
This program resource box contains facilitator tools that can be used to discuss the effects and prevention of alcohol abuse, drug abuse and eating disorders. (J)
- It’s A Grand Old Flag:
Learn all about the history of the American flag, then practice the steps involved in a flag ceremony. Kit contains a flag and history book. (J)
- Manners that Matter:
This program focuses on developing healthy, safe and respectful relationships. (B,J)
- Mixed Messages:
Everything you need to discuss images of women and girls in the mass media ... magazines, PowerPoint presentation with printed notes, VHS and DVD versions of 30-minute resources. Three kits for girls ages 11 - 17 and one kit for girls ages 9 - 11. (J, C, S)
- Once Upon a Time:
One program box is available for facilitating the program “Once Upon a Time” with Brownie Girl Scouts. Program examines the images of girls/women in the media. Activities are built around “The Paper Bag Princess,” a fable with a non-traditional twist. (B)
- Real Life 101:
Includes facilitator resource guide as well as a collection of videos that show people in a variety of real careers. (J, C)
- Strength and Sharing:
Teach girls to understand the concept of philanthropy at an early age. Program boxes are available as follows: three boxes for Daisy Girl Scouts and three boxes for Brownie Girl Scouts. (D, B)
- Under the Sea:
Activities and games that will help girls to discover more about the ocean. Boxes work toward patch requirement. (B, J)
Zink the Zebra
Leaders: if you’re looking for a program to run with your troop, Zink the Zebra is a great option.
The Zink the Zebra patch program box helps Girl Scouts realize that we are more alike than different and being different doesn’t mean you don’t need friends. The Girl Scout Zink the Zebra Patch Program is designed to give girls an ongoing sense of awareness and appreciation for individual differences, foster compassion and respect for others; as well as a basic understanding of acceptance of others with perceived or actual differences. This program provides leaders materials to facilitate activities. Program lessons and support materials are included as well as patches and recognitions.
Leaders will receive
- Zink the Zebra-A Special Tale storybook
- A Zink the Zebra folder with appropriate program and support materials
- Zink the Zebra Bean Bag toy for each paid participant
- Zink the Zebra Patch for each paid participant
