Each year, Girl Scouts of Chicago formally recognizes those Girl Scout adult members whose accomplishments are so significant, that they should not go unrewarded or unnoticed.
Girl Scouts have a formal system for honoring Girl Scout adult members. The recognitions Girl Scouting confers are powerful reinforcers of the qualities and services it values. Awarded recognitions provide the means to acknowledge individuals and service teams for their unique and outstanding service. A list of these awards and their requirements may be found at the bottom of this page.
Recommendations for awards can be initiated by adult volunteers and/or staff. The selection of recipients is made by a council task group of volunteers. This increases the significance of the honor, as the recipient's peers have set aside the time to document the accomplishments achieved on behalf of Girl Scouting by the person whose name is submitted in nomination.
NOMINATING PROCEDURES
All letters of endorsement must accompany the nomination form. This procedure will enable the person or group submitting a nomination to be sure that everything is in order prior to submitting the nomination to the council. Please keep in mind that the person who submits the award nomination cannot write a letter of endorsement for that nomination.
OUTSTANDING LEADER and OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER recognitions are now determined at the Service Unit Level. This means that each service unit can select from their own members who should receive these awards. Each service unit can form a volunteer recognition task group to solicit nominations from its members and select the best nominee in each category. Each service unit will submit to the Council Recognition Task Group one awardee in each category that they have selected to receive these awards. These awards will be presented at the annual council recognition event.
