Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana strives to provide innovative programs and structures that meet the needs of individual girls who come from a wide variety of backgrounds and living environments. Current deliver methods include:
TROOPS
Classic, volunteer-led system for delivering Girl Scout program to girls through regularly scheduled meetings. Troops meet at schools, temporary/transitional housing shelters, and public housing developments.
GIRLSPACE
Staff-led program offering 2,250 girls ages 6-14 living in low-income communities a safe, educational program to attend after school at 30 Chicago Public Schools from October to June. GirlSpace reaches girls in neighborhoods that do not have the resources to sustain Girl Scouts’ traditional troop delivery method. Without GirlSpace, these girls would not be able to benefit from all that Girl Scouting has to offer.
INTEREST GROUPS
Girls participate in staff-led, short-term activities that focus on special topics or themes.
INDIVIDUAL INVOLVEMENT
Girls participate fully in Girl Scouts without troop/program affiliation.
COUNCIL-WIDE EVENTS
Girl Scouts explore their interests and develop skills through council-wide events offered from October to June. Events range from yoga and technology to financial education and staying safe when home alone. Council-wide events are usually held in partnership with other organizations, such as the Museum of Science and Industry or The Chopping Block.
CAMP
Girls participate in a variety of outdoor experiences at one of our two camps, including a free two-week summer camp for girls from low-income communities funding by the City of Chicago Department of Children and Youth Services.
