 In August, Governor Blagoveich signed into law Public Act 95-0320 that could create four passenger license plates, depending on the level of interest from state citizens. The four potential plates are: Girl Scouts, Girl Scout Gold Award, Boy Scouts, and Boy Scout Eagle Award. For each Girl Scout plate purchased, $25 of the plate fee will support Girl Scouting in the driver’s local community.
For the license plates to be produced, the Secretary of State must receive 850 plate reservations. New legislation might be passed in January that would increase the number of reservations required for a new plate design from 850 to 1,500, so reserve your plate sooner rather than later!
If the required number of plate requests is received by the Secretary of State, people who reserved plates will be contacted to begin the license plate registration process. For drivers currently registered, the new plate will cost $69, which includes the cost of the plate and a plate switch fee. For drivers renewing their registration, a $105 fee includes the plate cost, plate switch fee, and the re-registration fee. Vanity and personalized license plates will also be available for additional charges. Please contact the Illinois Secretary of State office for more details about those plates.
In all cases, $25 per Girl Scout license plate will be sent to your local council to support Girl Scouting.
